This resource is an introduction to the migration of a wide range of people, from the Caribbean to the UK between the 1950s and 1970s – often termed the Windrush Generation. Students will learn about the various reasons why people migrate; post war Britain; and the important contributions made by those people who made their home in Waltham Forest.
Until now, very little evidence of the lives of these residents existed in the borough’s archives. The ‘We Are Here’ exhibition tells their stories, through photographic portraits, personal family pictures, mementoes and oral testimonies.
