Poetry and spoken word with Adisa

Session times: 1.45-2.15pm, 2.30-3pm, 3.15-3.45pm

Join us for a fun-filled interactive afternoon with spoken word artist Adisa. Create poetry and spoken word inspired by our new photography exhibition ‘We Are Here’.

‘We Are Here’ focuses on Waltham Forest’s ‘Windrush’ residents who came to the UK from the Caribbean to create new lives in the borough from the 1950s to the 1970s.

The exhibition will include 50 new photographic portraits alongside over 100 personal family pictures, mementos and oral testimonies, providing a peek into lives lived in the borough.

Pack Up Your Bag – family activity at home

Pack up your bag is an activity for families that can be adapted for any age. The Windrush was a time after 1948 in which migrants came from The British Empire’s colonies to help rebuild Britain.

People came by boat, or, plane from the West Indies leaving behind their families and way of life to live in Britain. Nobody knew how long for and one could only imagine how they would live in their ‘Mother’ land. Imagine you have to go on a long journey to live in a different country.

What would you pack if you knew you were going to live abroad for at least a few years?
